Project Profile

Interurban Trolley System

Client: The District

Project Summary: The District f/k/a Brazos Transit District contracted TGC to assist in its development of a new public transportation service for the Bryan/College Station area in early 1989. The system consists of five fixed- routes plus a demand-responsive service for the elderly and disabled.

Project Highlights

Mobility Planning

TGC identified the major planning components required to establish the system and analyzed the benefits of potential park and ride sites. Transportation surveys were developed and mailed to residents of the metropolitan area and members of the Texas A&M University community. Coordination of study results with local, state, and federal entities was essential. Recommendations based on survey results enhanced service planning for the system.

Grant Development

TGC developed a startup Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 9 capital and operating assistance grant to support the new transit system.

Monitoring

TGC developed a service monitoring and reporting system to compile data to meet the federal Section 15(a) reporting requirement and to assist with ongoing management of the new transit service.
