Project Profile

Oklahoma City Union Station Building

Oklahoma City Union Station

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Client: Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority

Project Summary: The Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority (COTPA) required new headquarters that would also house City transportation planning staff and serve as the focal point of all transit services. Historic Union Train Station occupied a location that might serve local and intercity bus needs. It is also a logical interface point for future rail services. TGC provided several services that were vital to the acquisition and development of the facility as a multimodal transit facility.

Project Highlights

Mobility Planning

* Prepared a planning study that justified an UMTA Section 9 grant to purchase Union Station.
* Analyzed space utilization, out buildings, and adjacent property.
* Evaluated potential ridership demand for each potential ridership mode.

Feasibility/Environmental Studies

Union Station was constructed as a rail passenger facility in 1931 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. TGC prepared the environmental assessment (with particular emphasis on the historic qualities of Union Station) that led to a Finding Of No Significant Impact (FONSI).

Finance Strategies

TGC worked with COTPA, UMTA, and the building seller to develop a joint public/private initiative to purchase the building and make it available for staff and public facilities.

Grant Development

Assisted with developing and pursuing grants to purchase Union Station and to remodel a portion of the building for use as an intercity bus terminal.

Implementation

TGC worked with COTPA, UMTA, and Greyhound to update an intercity bus terminal and create a modern interface with local buses and other modes of transportation in part of the station.
