Bryan and Lufkin, Texas
Client: The District
Project Cost: $10.8 Million
Services Provided
Project Summary: TGC assisted The District f/k/a Brazos Transit District in the development of transit terminals and administrative offices in Angelina and Brazos Counties. TGC led the planning and preliminary engineering for an $8 million facility in Bryan/College Station.
Project Highlights
The firm achieved a Letter of No Prejudice (LONP) to expedite a streetscape project around the proposed site and is currently working with Congressional representation to identify and secure the necessary funding for construction. The terminal will transfer customers from three downtown routes operated by The District and be the point-of-departure for the inter-city bus carrier. Furthermore, the facility incorporates office space for the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the county administration, and has dedicated and revenue-generating parking.
TGC planned the project, conducted the site selection and preliminary engineering, managed the final design process and secured $2.8 million in funds for a multi-modal facility in Lufkin. The District’s Lufkin and Nacogdoches lines will pulse at that facility each hour. Kerrville and Greyhound Lines will service this center as well. Currently, TGC has advertised for bids and is under contract to act as construction manager.
Finance and Funding Strategy Services
TGC assisted The District to secure $20 million in federal funds to develop a transportation improvement program for east and central Texas. These earmarked funds supported new and expanded transit services in 20 Texas counties. The District retained TGC to develop operating and funding plans for the area. Services included fixed-route, demand-responsive, park and ride, and route-deviation systems. TGC developed fare structures for the various service types and identified vehicle and manpower requirements. TGC calculated ridership estimates along with identifying capital and annual operating costs for the various services.
