The Research Forest Park & Ride

Client: The Woodlands Development Company
Project Summary: Since 1985, The Woodlands Express Park & Ride service has experienced an annual growth rate of 30%. In 1992, extensive on-board and community-wide surveys were conducted by TGC to ascertain the existing latent and future demand for park & ride service in South Montgomery County.
Project Highlights
The results of these surveys indicated that additional parking spaces would be necessary to meet the anticipated demand for park & ride service. Two facilities, in addition to an existing facility at South Park Drive, were identified for development. The surveys and a park & ride demand analysis indicated that an optimal place for a park & ride facility would be in the northern portion of The Woodlands on Research Forest Drive.
Achievements
Road improvements were made to allow convenient access to the park & ride facility and to accommodate the additional peak-hour congestion caused by park & ride users and bus traffic to the facility.
