BECK STREET/BRYAN AVENUE CORRIDOR PLAN

CITY OF BRYAN, TX

The Goodman Corporation (TGC) completed the City of Bryan Beck Street / Bryan Avenue corridor plan in 2009. The City had previously identified pedestrian and streetscape improvements that would promote an environment attractive to pedestrians, improved land uses, and enhance transit ridership. TGC reviewed the City’s plans and developed additional federally eligible recommendations that would benefit the pedestrian and transit environment including enhancements to streetscape, pedestrian safety through context-sensitive design, and the use of public art and a community gathering places. Since the route did not have designated stops which presented challenges for potential transit users, TGC recommended permanent bus stop locations at strategically placed locations along the corridor. In combination with these planning efforts, TGC secured a Letter of No Prejudice (LONP) to protect $2.3 million of federally eligible improvements enhancements that the City was committed to implementing. TGC worked with the regional Metropolitan Planning Organization to incorporate the project into the Long-Range Plan and Transportation Improvement Program. TGC pursued discretionary funding through congressional representatives and was recommended for funding in the 2010 appropriations cycle.
